Here’s a little bit of my heart:
You can look at my resume and see all the snappy scholarships, GPAs, but is that what makes me worthy of this call and your support? I have some pretty amazing churches I’ve been a part of and I have names I could throw around with great connections, but does that prove my value for ministry?
In the past year, I have learned a lot about grace and faith. To state the obvious, they go hand in hand. Grace reminds me that I am imperfect on my own, that I am insufficient for doing anything of eternal value, yet God is sufficient and he lifts us up, makes us whole, and allows us to partner with him in his mission. Now faith compliments grace because it is our trust that God has, is, and always will come through on what he has promised us. What stands out to me in this is how much my ministry lives or wanes on these concepts; I am one man–imperfect yet made whole by the blood of Christ– and he has called me to a mission that will only succeed and have eternal value if he comes through on his promises and shows up in the place he has called me.
All this said, God has been cultivating a passion in me, not just to lead music, make a stage visually appealing, create intriguing graphics, or direct powerful dramas, he has been cultivating a passion in me to lead. The leadership at Suncrest use a saying: “As a church staff, we are not paid to “do stuff,” but we are paid to lead people.” And, to me, this passion to lead, to relate to people, to show them how Christ can be a very tangible part of their lives, is more valuable than any grade I have received or accomplisment I can claim.
If you are exploring this blog, chances are you know me and have played a significant role in my life at one time or another. This is my heart, this is my passion, and I hope to honor Christ to the best of my ability. I hope this gives you some insight into “why natemac.” I wouldn’t be where I am without you all in my life, and likewise, I won’t get where God is leading me without your prayers and support.
we’re excited for the next steps of your journey Nathan — we’ll be praying for you.
